London-based eyewear specialist Mondottica will showcase its complete collection onboard YV Global’s Alhambra in the Harbour Village at TFWA World Exhibition (1 to 5 October). The company will also reveal a collaboration with an A-list celebrity – targeting Gen Z consumers with a ‘star’ collection, it said.

The group’s showcase at Cannes will include sunglasses from Ted Baker, Vivienne Westwood, Karen Millen and AllSaints. Contemporary British fashion brand AllSaints is the latest addition to Mondottica’s portfolio, and its eyewear range is set to launch in Spring/Summer 2024.

Ted Baker is Mondottica’s best-selling range in travel retail, and it is listed both in airport stores and inflight.

Select frames from the Vivienne Westwood range are available in airport stores. Its collection draws on frames as ‘theatre’ – going beyond form and function with vintage design elements.

Mondottica National Accounts Manager – Sunglasses & Travel Retail Louise Porte commented on the company’s strategy in travel retail: “We have been working through a distributor for inflight listings since the pandemic. Pre-COVID we had a significantly larger and more global inflight business – we are looking to build that up again. We currently have three live airline listings, one with Ted Baker and two with Scotch & Soda in Europe.

“We have also worked with Harding Retail for several years with a wide variety of brands in the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and the southern hemisphere. We also have an established ferry business, working for many years with Brittany Ferries as well as several domestic ferry companies.

“We are however seeing the most growth at airports and are aiming to extend that business – both in terms of additional brands and innovative products as well as deeper penetration.

“During the TFWA World Exhibition we will aim to increase direct discussions with airlines and ferry companies, building on conversations we had at DFNI 2023 Cruise Conference in Palma de Mallorca in June. This will of course be in addition to consolidating existing relationships and growing the business. We’re really looking forward to a very busy week this year in Cannes.”

Porte underlined Mondottica’s commitment to sustainability: “Our eyewear reflects the DNA of our licensed brands and delivers products through multiple channels on a global scale. At Mondottica we are living by our mission statement to consciously and authentically take very credible steps to improve the sustainability of our collections and operations.

“We have a responsibility to not only be aware of our impact on people and planet but to take actions to reduce or remove any negative impact and create positive change for the future.”

Mondottica’s newcomer AllSaints also has a strong focus on sustainability. The frames in its sunglasses collection are made from Acetate Renew, a sustainable material derived from carbon renewal technology that breaks down hard-to-recycle plastic waste. Acetate Renew significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions and fossil fuel usage, compared to the conventional acetate manufacturing process. However, it is indistinguishable from traditional acetate – allowing the brand to offer consumers quality eyewear in premium styles.

Mondottica publishes a Sustainability Newsletter which details its efforts to upgrade packaging, offset carbon emissions and monitor energy use. The company joined the UN Global Compact in September 2021. Porte added: “This collaboration solidifies our commitment to doing sustainable and good business.

“This means that we operate in line with principles drawn from UN treaties for human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption. It’s the right thing to do and aligns with our commitment to deliver long-term financial, environmental, social, and ethical value.” ✈
